Gov. Rick Snyder took a bold but risky step in proposing that the state end its practice of exempting most pension income from taxes.
Opponents have rapidly cast the debate as taxing on senior citizens to finance massive tax cuts for business. And, as lawmakers already know, angry seniors are quick to action - and they're committed voters.
This is no easy sell. It is, though, a discussion Michigan needs to begin:
