An opportunity to meet the candidates is scheduled at the Bullard Sanford Memorial Library, 520 W Huron from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on April 1.  Three candidates campaigning for the 2010 election will be available to state their position on how they will represent the needs of the people of Michigan.

Robert Palmer, former teacher and sales manager from Bay City announced his Republican campaign for Michigan's 31st Senate District that combines the counties of  Arenac, Bay, Huron, Sanilac and Tuscola.  Palmer states he has the private sector, life and educational experience needed in Lansing to make the changes to “Fix Michigan.”

Scott L. Withers Jr., a former television journalist and independent media consultant from Birch Run is launching a Democratic primary election challenge in the 5th Congressional District, which includes Tuscola, Saginaw, Genesee and Bay counties.  Former Vassar resident Withers says he wants to “bring jobs back to mid-Michigan.”

Republican Senator Roger N. Kahn, a cardiologist at Michigan Cardiovascular Institute in Saginaw is seeking reelection in the 32nd District.  Kahn was elected in November 2004 as the state representative for the 94th District and in November 2006 he was elected as the state senator for the 32nd District, representing Saginaw and Gratiot counties.  He has served on several committees including Appropriations, Community Health, Human Services, Judiciary and Corrections, Retirement, and Transportation.

A panel discussion on financial services is scheduled at the Bullard Sanford Memorial Library, 520 W Huron from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on March 18, 2010.  Financial planners Douglas DuRussel and Kent Kern will have current information on global and U.S. finances.  They are available to answer general questions on retirement planning, asset allocation, mutual funds and gold investment.
 
Douglas DuRussel is the owner of American Pride Financial LLC and provides financial services and insurance for both business and individuals.  He not only helps his clients plan for their financial futures, but helps them to implement those plans.
   
Kent Kern specializes in retirement planning for individuals, which includes accumulation and distribution planning.  He also works with congregations and schools concerning endowments and charitable planning.  Kern is a member of Northpointe Planning Group.
